Pilates Isn’t Just a Workout. It’s a System.
Authentic Pilates is a full-body method designed to build strength, flexibility, control, and alignment. It’s not just about using a Reformer. The Pilates system includes a variety of apparatus: the Mat, the Cadillac, the Wunda Chair, the Spine Corrector, and more. Each piece plays a specific role in helping your body progress safely and effectively.
In our studio, we don’t isolate the equipment—we use the right tool at the right time to support your unique movement journey.

Our Team’s Commitment to Classical Training
I'm Jayne O'Brien, the founder of Simply Pilates London. I've been teaching Pilates for over 20 years. My journey includes earning two comprehensive certifications and completing The Work*™*, a highly selective program led by Jay Grimes, one of Joseph Pilates’ original students. Currently, I’m deepening my knowledge with Lori Coleman-Brown, who was trained by Romana Kryzanowska, a protégé of Joseph Pilates.
My colleague Francesca shares my commitment to excellence. She has immersed herself in the classical method and completed the Exhale Classical certification in 2019. Right now, she is pursuing another certification with Gloria Gasperi. We’re both dedicated to teaching Pilates as it was meant to be taught—with precision, purpose, and care.
Pilates vs. Physiotherapy: Understanding the Differences

This is a question I hear all the time, so let’s clear it up:
Physiotherapy is a clinical approach aimed at treating specific injuries. It’s essential for acute conditions, providing targeted rehabilitation.
Pilates, on the other hand, is a whole-body movement system. It does not directly treat injuries. However, by strengthening and aligning the body—especially the muscles surrounding vulnerable areas—it supports healing and promotes long-term function.
A well-trained Pilates teacher completes 600+ hours of rigorous training that includes anatomy, supervised teaching, observation, and deep personal practice. While we’re not physiotherapists, we are highly trained in helping people move better, feel stronger, and live with less pain.
The Growing Trend of Reformer-Only Studios
The rise of reformer-only classes is worth discussing. These studios often focus solely on one piece of equipment. They are frequently run by instructors with minimal training, which can be risky for your progress and safety.
If a studio offers only reformer classes, you’re missing the bigger picture—and the real power—of Pilates as a system. Authentic Pilates is not just about a burn or sweat; it’s about learning how to move well for life.

Why Investment in Quality Matters
The bottom line is simple: you get what you pay for.
Studios with large classes and low prices often focus on volume, not individual care. At our studio, we limit Open Gym sessions to just 4 people max. This allows us to provide personalized attention and help you truly grow in your practice.
When you invest in classical Pilates, you’re investing in your body for the long haul—not chasing a quick fix.
